About the memorial

Trocnov is the birthplace of the Hussite warrior Jan Žižka. It lies sixteen kilometres southeast of České Budějovice, inside an imaginary quadrangle of peaks - Borovany, Trhové Sviny, Strážkovice and Ledenice. From all these points you can reach Trocnov by bus or train. The whole area is a very suitable place for group and family tourism. It includes a museum building with an exhibition dedicated to Jan Žižek, Hussitism and the influence of this movement on Bavarian territory. There are a number of interesting exhibits, information kiosks with educational programmes and interactive games relating to the period. The site is dominated by a thirteen-metre high granite monument to Jan Žižka by Professor Josef Malejovský from 1960. A tour of the Trocnov site will take approximately 2-3 hours, and it is recommended to start in the museum with the exhibition. The museum was established in the premises of the original ash yard of the Borovany monastery.
